I’m at a party, but I don’t want to drink—now what?
Preparing
- Decide which parties you’re comfortable attending.
- Bring a friend who supports your decision not to drink or a friend who also doesn’t want to drink.
At the party
- Know you aren’t alone in deciding not to drink.
- Embrace the activities that don’t involve alcohol.
- Talk with others — starting with a compliment helps!
- If you start to feel anxious or overwhelmed it’s okay to take a break.
It’s okay to say no!
- “No, but thanks!”
- “I don’t want to drink tonight.”
- “I’m the designated driver.”
- “I have an early morning class tomorrow.”
Alcohol-free cocktails
Alcohol-free drinks can help you avoid peer pressure to drink alcohol since nobody else knows what’s in your cup.
