If you choose to drink, here’s some tips to be safe:

1. Eat before you drink

Food slows the rate of alcohol absorption. Protein is a good option!

2. Plan a 100% sober ride

Plan who will be the designated driver ahead of time or arrange a ride‑sharing service if this falls through.

3. Reduce the rate at which you drink

Try to stick close to 1 standard drink/hour:

  • 12 oz. beer (5% alcohol), or
  • 5 oz. wine (12% alcohol), or
  • 1.5 oz. hard liquor (40% alcohol)

4. Beware of binge drinking

Binge drinking is associated with risks and injuries. Aim for a limit under 4 standard drinks in 2 hours as a general guideline.

5. Avoid mixing

Mixing alcohol with Rx, over‑the‑counter, or other drugs can cause unintended reactions. It can be lethal.
